What’s Eyegroove?

A social video creation app with intuitive editing features, video filters, augmented reality effects, and the ability to overlay videos with music.

Eyegroove was a competitor to Musical.ly, the app ByteDance — a Chinese company — acquired and rebranded as TikTok, to serve the U.S. market.

My Role & Contribution

  • Early Employee: Joined before launch—employee #2.

  • Community Management: Recruited and managed a dynamic group of creators across skateboarders, hip-hop dancers, film students, musicians, EDM artists, and lip-syncers.

  • Product Marketing: Translated usage and user feedback into product features and strategy: “clap to record”, Eyegroove watermark, featured music, video categories, in-app art direction, and acquisition strategy.

  • High Profile Challenge Campaign: Constructed and managed Challenge for Little Mix’s single Black Magic—girl group managed by Simon Cowell’s label Syco Records.
